Batman in this novel is portrayed as a depressed, more aggressive, and less controlled vigilante. As he grows older, he grows weaker and more aware. In my life, the person that reminds me of Batman would be my Uncle Aaron. I am not trying to put my Uncle down in any way or form, but what I say is my opinion based on a man I see, at most, twice a year.
My Uncle was a cop for twenty-five years and had his ups and downs with his position. He used to say how much he despised his job. I remember him screaming about him having to pull out his gun on innocent civilians, psychically fighting accused people, and having the most disrespectful co-workers. Like Batman, he struggled between doing what is right versus doing what is best but morally incorrect.
I believe my Uncle Aaron resembles Batman because of both positive and negative actions. Both Batman and Uncle Aaron are strong, intelligent, and confident. However, they both fight crime in a harsh manner, each try to stay out of the media as much as possible, and together they are both internally battling their side of wrongdoing.
Thankfully, my Uncle retired from the force and is now living a much more peaceful life. Coincidentally, like Batman teaching the "Sons of Batman", my Uncle is now a professor at a local college in his hometown.
I can imagine the sort of internal conflict your uncle must have endured amidst his life as a cop, but I'm glad he's been able to calm his life down a bit! What does he teach now? I personally respect the fact he's continued in his efforts to better the lives of others, though now through education rather than by fighting crime.
