Who is your Batman?
I would say the "Batman" in my life would have to be my dad, for several reasons. One reason is because my father did used to fight against crime in his home country of El Salvador. He was a police officer back in the '80s and he fought against the guerrilla's, which were a group of leftists who killed citizens and committed many crimes. A civil war in El Salvador broke out and the country became a war zone with guerrilla's attacking villages and even the military, also including police officers. He also might have had to do a few things that might be considered illegal in order to fight those criminals, like Batman. He didn't really do anything that bad, though. Probably. Another reason that my dad is like Batman to me is because he never knew who his real dad was, so he tries to be the best parent he could be, so that my brother and I would never have to feel the same as he did, growing up with only his hard-working mother and his siblings who didn't care about him much. He did have a stepfather that used to beat the living crap out of him, but that's irrelevant. I can connect this with Batman because both of his parents were killed and he became Batman in order to stop crime, and to make sure that nobody in Gotham would have to feel the same pain that he did when he was a child. They both went out of their ways to make sure that others would not have to feel the same pain as they did when they were children.

Your dad sounds like he could actually be Batman. All of the things he did sound similar to the things that Batman did. Your dad had a very interesting life and he sounds lucky to be alive.
ReplyDeleteFinally I read about a dad as a Batman figure. Your father is a brave man and has very much earned my respect especially after growing up without a father and having to battle the Salvadoran guerrillas. I also admire that he learned from not having a dad rather than replicating it on you boys.
