Who is your Batman?
Anyone can be Batman. It doesn't have to be a male, it could be a female. Just like Robin was a teenage girl in the novel. My Batman would be my grandmother. Like Batman she shows a lot of characteristics like being brave, being their own person, and looking out for those who are in need of help. My grandmother is 71 years old and she is still to me the bravest person I know. She will climb a 6 foot ladder just to put back in a window and she doesn't care who she runs into. Even if you are 6 foot and weigh 300 pounds and she meets you in the darkest tunnel of the city. She will literally walk up to you and say "get the hell out my way!" in Spanish, which makes it even funnier. She does whatever she wants and no one tells her otherwise, not me or my mom. Just like Batman, he won't care about what the media or the police say. She always helps me out when I am a tough situation. She may not help me with my schoolwork, but when it comes to dealing with people that I don't know she gave a lot of tips. When it would be just me and her walking in the streets, if other people keep looking at us in an odd way, she will give them a look that basically says,"come at me bro". Batman wouldn't fear anyone no matter how big and scary they look. Like how he wanted to fight the mutant gang leader so badly, he went without hesitation. She is my Batman, my hero, my guardian, but most importantly she is my grandmother and I love her for who she is.

Even though I'm not much of a connoisseur of superhero comics, I must say that Batman is a very intriguing character in that so many of his characteristics are embodied in ordinary people like us. Your grandmother is a perfect example of Batman's traits being reflected in everyday people, given her bravery and courageousness (very funny to read by the way!). It just goes to show that we a little bit of Batman is in almost all of us, and that kind of connection between readers and characters is vital in keeping the audience engaged an invested in a plot.
ReplyDeletefyi , the comment posted by "Unknown" was actually me, Rosecka. I don't know why it did that and I'm sorry if anyone was freaked out.
